How Coach Al Lyman uses the Vasa Swim Ergometer for Ironman Swim Training

Al_Lyman2How do you evaluate your athletes on the Vasa Swim Ergometer in regard to: technique, endurance, power output, stroke rate, and general improvement?

Coach Al Lyman explains how he uses the Vasa Swim Ergometer himself, and with his athletes, to assess performance, improve technique, and build strength and endurance while maintaining an appropriate stroke rate for racing since many triathletes lack an adequate kick.

“I feel that being sure that form is as close to ideal/perfect as possible (especially early on during the first 1-3 months of use) is the most important thing to ensure continued improvement while maintaining a low risk of injury.”

This 8-page document describes drills, provides three sample IM workouts, covers shoulder stabilization, and discusses the many specific training benefits for multi-sport athletes. Read the full document here.
