FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
We’ve been working with swimmers of every level, shape, and size for almost 30 years. In that time, we’ve fielded a lot of questions about swimming, triathlon, surfing, injury rehab, coaching, and dryland training.
Here are answers to a few of the most commonly asked questions. If you still had some lingering thoughts after the end of our course, these may help you.
Which Vasa is right for me – a Vasa Trainer or a Vasa SwimErg?
Either machine, the Vasa Swim Ergometer or the Vasa Trainer, will help you become a stronger, faster, and more powerful swimmer. You will accomplish more in less time, thanks to the high-quality training they provide. Which one you choose depends on your needs, budget, and other factors unique to you. To see a side-by-side comparison of how each ranks by training benefit, our Model Comparison Chart will help. Or feel free to call or email us with questions.
What’s Included When I Buy A Vasa Trainer or a Vasa SwimErg?
Each Vasa Trainer and SwimErg comes complete with everything you’ll need to do super effective swim-specific training and most of the 100+ functional exercises available, as illustrated in the comprehensive training manual.
Do You Offer Additional Accessories?
Yes! We offer several accessories that will widen your options and enhance your machine.
For the Vasa Trainer, these include the:
- Leg Power Platform
- Deluxe Power Cords
- XL Bench Upgrade
- Ankle Straps, Forearm Cuffs
- Weatherproof Protective Cover
For the SwimErg:
- ANT+ wireless Power Meter
- XL Bench Upgrade
- Trainer Strap System
- Forearm Cuffs
- Kayak Kit
- Weatherproof Protective Cover
How Much Space Does It Take Up?
The Vasa Trainer and the SwimErg are both about 90″ long x 24″ wide. We recommend planning to use a space about 10′ long by 4′ wide to allow the full range of motion in every direction for training.
Storage
The front of the Vasa Trainer can also be folded up for better storage. Once folded up, it’s easy to roll the Vasa Trainer around on the wheel located at the rear for storage or transport.
The SwimErg has wheels on the front, making it easy to move it around for storage. Many teams roll their SwimErgs on deck for practice, then roll them into a non-corrosive room when not in use.
NOTE: if space is an issue for you or your club, the Vasa Spacesaver SwimErg with folding Sport Bench (combo shown below) is the perfect solution for those with space limitations.
What Types of Exercises Can I Do with a Vasa Trainer or SwimErg?
There are over 100 functional exercises you can do on the Vasa Trainer for the abdominals, arms, back, chest, shoulders, and legs. These include ab crunches, bicep curls, tricep extensions, dips, pull-ups, lat pulldowns, chest presses, lunges, squats, leg curls, leg extensions and leg plyometrics.
On the SwimErg, in addition to all the swim-specific exercises, you can do many “prehab”, rehab, and functional strength exercises [watch video below]. Add a Trainer Strap System accessory and double the function so you can use it like a Vasa Trainer for many exercises.

What Happens If I’m Recovering From an Injury?
For each exercise, use a resistance setting that is appropriate for your specific need, be that strength, power, speed, endurance, rehabilitation or flexibility.
The Vasa Trainer and the Vasa SwimErg are both safe for use by people of all ages and abilities. Finding the right resistance level on each machine is simple.
