Get faster swimmers training with Vasa
First introduced in 1989, the Vasa Trainer has become a household name among swimmers, swim coaches, and triathletes in the U.S. and around the world. After its introduction at the 1990 ASCA World Clinic, the Vasa Swim Trainer quickly became stock equipment for the swim programs at Stanford, Cal-Berkley, USC and Germantown Academy. ...75% of all swim team members selected for the 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 US Olympic Teams train on Vasa Trainer and Vasa Ergometers. >>See who trains with Vasa

In 2004, Vasa introducted the Ergometer, which
combines realistic stroke simulation with the precise electronic monitoring necessary to develop functional endurance and anaerobic power for swimming. This high tech swim bench provides swim coaches and swimmers with the tools necessary to develop unmatched aerobic endurance and anaerobic power for swimming.

Teach the Early Vertical Forearm (EVF)
Also known as high elbow catch, EVF is generally understood to be the ideal arm position needed to generate the most stroke power which moves the swimmer most efficiently through the water. The Vasa Trainer and Vasa Ergometer are excellent tools to help understand the positioning for, as well as developing the flexibility and strength needed for success with EVF. Learn how to achieve an Early Vertical Forearm.

Increase stroke power, speed & endurance
When your athletes swim train on the Vasa Ergometer, it’s all about sustaining power, only with the swimming muscles. You’ll quickly see increases in strength, stroke power and endurance. Plus, your can motivate them to beat the personal bests because the numbers from the VM1 power meter don’t lie!

Power meter measures progress precisely
The Erg’s power meter allows you to measure your athletes' workouts precisely with repeatable readings. Stroke Power is expressed in Watts, so you can see steady progress in your athletes ability to sustain power for Intervals and Race simulations. The VM1 power meter measures: Power (watts), time, distance, pace/100 meters, stroke rate, and force for right & left arms.

Keep injured swimmers part of daily practice
Athletes that have injuries or illness that keep them out of the water can still participate in practice. With Vasa Trainers and Vasa Ergometers on deck, your athletes can do the same or slightly modified drills on dryland as the athletes are doing in the water.

"The major benefit we get from the Vasa Ergometer is for athletes that have shoulder injuries. The most common injury for swimmers is to the bicep tendon. Most times by using the Vasa Ergometer and eliminating the arm recovery we find that the athletes can maintain the workload on the arms without any further damage to the bicep tendon. We have our swimmers do the same sets on the Vasa as the swimmers in the water and supplement that with kicking sets for the legs and some underwater recovery exercises to maintain the feel of the water."

Examples:
Swimmers in the water are doing 20 X 100 on 1:15.
Swimmers on the Vasa do 20 X 1 minute efforts on 1:15 trying to increase the output as they go along.

Swimmers in the water 5 X 400 on 4:40.
Swimmers on the Vasa do 5 X 4 minute effort on 4:40 trying to increase the output on each one.
*Note: Athletes should do normal rehab for the shoulders. This is a substitute for the training not a substitute for rehab.

Improve Freestyle technique & efficiency
Swim training on the Vasa Ergometer and Vasa Trainer help your athletes improve stroke technique in ways difficult to see while swimming in the water. You can see and teach proper arm positioning. Athletes and Coaches can actually see if they are “dropping your elbows”, crossing midline, or applying force too soon or too late in the stroke. Practicing proper technique, including adopting an Early Vertical Forearm, will put more power in their stroke.
